Towson University Commencement Volunteer Code of Conduct
As a volunteer for Towson University’s Commencement ceremonies, you are an essential part of making this event a memorable and seamless experience for graduates, their families, and the university community. To ensure the highest standard of service, all volunteers are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct:
1. Professionalism
• Punctuality: Arrive at your assigned location on time and remain for the duration of your shift.
• Appearance: Dress appropriately for the weather. Wear your designated volunteer vest, badge, or any other required attire such as sturdy shoes for standing and walking.
• Communication: Use polite and respectful language in all interactions with graduates, guests, staff, and fellow volunteers.
2. Responsibility
• Know Your Role: Understand your specific duties and responsibilities. If uncertain, seek clarification from your volunteer lead.
• Dependability: Complete all tasks assigned to you. If an issue arises that prevents you from fulfilling your responsibilities, notify your volunteer lead immediately.
• Confidentiality: Maintain confidentiality regarding any sensitive information, such as student or guest data, event logistics, or emergencies.
3. Teamwork
• Collaboration: Work cooperatively with staff, faculty, and other volunteers. Support each other to ensure the event's success.
• Problem-Solving: Assist in resolving any issues that arise calmly and effectively. If necessary, escalate concerns to your volunteer lead.
4. Guest Relations
• Courtesy: Provide clear, friendly assistance to all guests, graduates, and faculty. Offer directions or information as needed.
• Conflict Resolution: Handle any disputes or disruptions courteously and follow established procedures for escalation.
• Inclusion: Ensure that all guests and graduates feel welcome, respected, and valued, regardless of background.
5. Safety and Compliance
• Health and Safety: Follow all health and safety protocols, including any emergency procedures.
• Rules and Regulations: Comply with all Towson University policies and any legal or regulatory guidelines associated with the event.
• Alcohol and Drug Policy: Volunteers must not consume or be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs during their shift.
6. Commitment to Excellence
• Positive Attitude: Approach your duties with enthusiasm and a willingness to help.
• Adaptability: Be flexible and open to changes in assignments or schedules.
• Feedback: Offer constructive feedback after the event to help improve future ceremonies.
7. Social Media and Public Relations
• Respectful Conduct: Refrain from posting any content on social media that may be considered inappropriate or disrespectful to the university or the event.
• Event Privacy: Do not share confidential information, such as security details or restricted areas, on social media or other platforms.
